Tim Duncan wins NBA teammate of the year award
Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs has another trophy for his mantle.
The veteran big man has been named the winner of the 2014-15 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award.
The award was devised three years ago and is voted on by NBA players, with a somewhat odd condition: Players cannot vote for a current teammate. Duncan, 39, beat out Vince Carter of the Memphis Grizzlies and Elton Brand of the Atlanta Hawks for the nod.
Shane Battier of the Miami Heat won the award in 2013-14, and Chauncey Billups of the Los Angeles Clippers took the inaugural honor in 2012-13. Both players are now retired.
The award is named after former NBA players Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes. The pair were teammates on the Cincinnati Royals in the 1950s. Twyman eventually became Stokes' legal guardian after Stokes suffered a catastrophic brain injury in the last game of the 1958 season.
