PHOTO: Rockets unveil new 'Clutch City' and 'Space City' alternates
The Houston Rockets are throwing it back to their championship seasons in hopes of repeating them in 2015-16.
The Rockets unveiled their long-rumored new alternate jersey on Tuesday, with a not-so-veiled reference to their 1994 and 1995 "Clutch City" championship teams. The red-and-yellow look harkens back to the Hakeem Olajuwon-led squads that primarily wore red jerseys with white lettering and yellow trim.

The Rockets have previously worn red-and-yellow "Houston"-adorned jerseys, but the "Clutch City" name on the front is new.

They also unveiled a "Space City" black alternate that won't be used until 2016-17, with the name an apparent nod to NASA's local space center, and an unnamed silver alternate.

The Rockets decided to diverge from their mid-'90s look before the team found success, with owner Leslie Alexander wanting to alter a brand he felt had become associated with losing, according to a recent article from Zach Lowe of Grantland. The Rockets reportedly asked to reverse the branding change once the team became successful, but the cost of doing so would have been too onerous.
