Under Armour extends Steph Curry through 2024
Under Armour signed the NBA's reigning MVP in Stephen Curry through 2024, the company announced Wednesday.
Terms of Curry's deal weren't disclosed, but recent signings of high-end NBA stars have ranged from $200 million for James Harden from Adidas, and a near-$300 million price tag for Kevin Durant from Nike.
Curry's extension includes an equity stake in the company, ESPN's Darren Rovell reports. Coincidentally, Under Armour hit an all-time high in stock prices on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Curry expressed tremendous confidence in Under Armour in a press release.
In the first two years of our partnership, we accomplished so much both on and off the court, and I'm looking forward to being part of the brand's story for the rest of my playing career and beyond.
Together, we share a passion for making athletes better and instilling self-belief in athletes everywhere.
The entire team has done an amazing job to develop innovative products that performs on the court and build platforms that allow me to connect with athletes all over the world.
The best is yet to come.
Under Armour's brand is on the rise as the Maryland-based sportswear giant recently overtook Adidas for second-highest footwear and apparel sales in the U.S. The companies still trail Nike, however, by a mile.
Company | Revenue (USD) |
---|---|
Nike | $11.8 billion |
Under Armour | $2.6 billion |
Adidas | $1.6 billion |

Curry's ascension to superstardom has given Under Armour a stepping stone in its hopes to climb into the basketball market. Last summer, Under Armour made an ambitious - but ultimately unsuccessful - run at Durant before Nike stepped in.
Of course, Nike could have retained Curry two seasons ago at the bargain price of less than $4 million per year. Instead, Nike turned down that figure and Curry moved to Under Armour.
The announcement of Curry's deal also comes on the heels of the release of the Curry Two, which will be available globally on Oct. 24 following its Sept. 6 release in China. No word, however, on the release of the Riley Curry Ones.
