Report: Warriors add Tony Mitchell to training camp roster
The Golden State Warriors have added another body for training camp, signing Tony Mitchell, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
Mitchell is a former No. 37 overall pick of the Detroit Pistons, with whom he appeared in 21 games as a rookie in 2013-14. Seeing time mostly at power forward, he averaged one point and 1.2 rebounds in 3.8 minutes, shooting 41.7 percent and knocking down his lone 3-point attempt.
He remained on the roster in 2014-15, before getting flipped to the Phoenix Suns in December and was promptly waived. Opting not to continue in the D-League, Mitchell finished out the season in Puerto Rico, averaging 10.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 22 games. In 17 career D-League games, he averaged 7.8 points and 7.5 rebounds.
The 6-foot-8 Mitchell will be in tough to make the Warriors, who have 13 players under guaranteed contract, with Mitchell making it six on non-guaranteed deals. If he fails to make the roster, he could be tabbed for D-League duty once more, this time as an affiliate player instead of on assignment.
