VIDEO: Sonny Weems tears rim off backboard with 1-handed jam
When the Phoenix Suns signed Sonny Weems to a reported two-year, $5.8-million contract this summer, they may not have realized that bringing Weems back from Russia brought with it another cost.
Namely, that Weems is liable to tear the Suns' practice facility apart. Literally. At a recent workout, Weems ripped the rim off a backboard with a one-handed baseline jam.
The Vine presumably cuts out right before Weems begins flexing all over the gym. Because how could he not after that?
The former No. 39 overall pick averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists for CSKA Moscow of the Russian league this season and, most importantly for his NBA prospects, hit 40.1 percent on threes. Best known for his time with the Toronto Raptors, the 29-year-old Weems averaged 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds over 140 NBA games before heading overseas in 2011.
