Heat's Spoelstra: Bosh, Wade ready for season
Despite being weighed down by nagging injuries over the past three seasons, the Miami Heat won't restrict Dwyane Wade's minutes, according to head coach Erik Spoelstra.
"Dwyane is coming into this season ready for whatever challenges it brings," Spoelstra told Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel. "And I'm not coaching him with restrictions in mind. And we'll adapt and be aware of anything that may come up as the season goes on."
Due to an assortment of leg injuries, Wade has missed over 70 games since the 2010-11 season. He missed 20 games last year due to bouts of knee, hip, ankle, and hamstring issues.
Power forward Chris Bosh is also on the mend after a case of blood clots ended his season following the All-Star break last year.
Spoelstra says his star forward is also ready for the upcoming campaign with training camp starting next week.
"We fully expect (Bosh) to be healthy and cleared for contact in camp," Spoelstra said. "He's been reinvigorated. He's had an opportunity to train."
The health of Miami's stars will figure significantly into the team's success next season. President Pat Riley cobbled together a star-studded starting five with Luol Deng, Hassan Whiteside, and Goran Dragic serving as overqualified supporting pieces around his two franchise cornerstones. In order for the Heat to actualize their sky-high potential, Wade and Bosh need to stay healthy.
The pair from the celebrated 2003 draft class shared the court for 663 minutes last season, outscoring opponents by 1.5 points per 100 possessions. As a team, the Heat were outscored by 2.8 points per 100 possessions.
