Report: Cavaliers will waive Michael Dunigan to make room for Dionte Christmas
The Cleveland Cavaliers will waive forward Matt Dunigan in order to make room for incoming forward Dionte Christmas, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.
Cleveland reportedly came to terms with Christmas on Thursday. The 29-year-old forward is expected to join the team on Saturday pending a physical.
Dunigan, meanwhile, was likely brought into camp as a spare big to fill in for the Cavaliers' holes in the frontcourt. Someone had to make up for the minutes lost by Tristan Thompson's holdout, Kevin Love's injury, and the sub-standard fitness of Anderson Varejao and Timofey Mozgov.
The swap of Dunigan for Christmas leaves the Cavaliers' roster at the maximum allowable of 20 during preseason action. The team will need to trim their roster to 15 or less before the regular season begins.
