Warriors' Green sets aside dough for future technicals
Draymond Green must have taken "Financial Planning 101" at Michigan State.
The Golden State Warriors forward is planning on putting some money aside this season for the not-so-rare occasions in which he finds himself being fined for technical fouls.
"The mark of a good financial team is knowing ... you really have to know who you're dealing with," Green told KNBR 680-AM on Wednesday, as reported by CSN Bay Area. "And you know, there's a little bit of money set aside in the budget for technical fouls."
Green already has one tech on his 2015-16 record after displaying too much exuberance in Tuesday's home opener versus the New Orleans Pelicans.
"I definitely got my money's worth on that one," the fourth-year small forward said. "I think a lot of my techs in the NBA, I haven't got my money's worth. I got my money's worth on that one. So that one was pretty cool to me ... I won't appeal that one."
Per NBA rules, a player is fined $2,000 for the first five technical fouls he receives in a given season. Fines for technicals six through 10 increase to $3,000 each, while numbers 11 through 15 warrant a $4,000 penalty. A warning letter is sent to the player after his 12th tech; on the 16th, players are fined $5,000 and suspended for one game.
During the 2014-15 regular season season, Green earned 12 technical fouls, however two of them were rescinded after the league reviewed the plays in question. By the end of the 2015 Finals, Green had been fined a total of $31,000.
Perhaps it's a good thing he signed that handsome $85-million pact during the summer.
So just how much is the appropriately-named baller saving for his future faux pas this year?
"Couple hundred bucks," Green said. "Just a couple hundred bucks. Nothing too extravagant."
