Cousins: 'My frustration is that we are 1-7 simple as that'

The Sacramento Kings appear destined for yet another disastrous season and the patience of star center DeMarcus Cousins is wearing awfully thin.

Cousins reportedly unleashed an expletive-laden tirade toward head coach George Karl following the team's loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. The next day, team president Vlade Divac asked players to arrive early for practice and held a meeting for the players, coaches, and front office, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports.

Cousins released an apology Wednesday for his actions:

Cousins made a point to clarify that his frustration wasn't directed at anyone in particular, which is a not-so-subtle reference to his souring relationship with Karl. The organization refused to confirm the story, but reports suggest the team meeting was necessitated by Cousins's diatribe toward Karl.

The blowup is the latest chapter in what has been a decidedly unstable situation in Sacramento.

Divac openly admitted in the summer that the relationship between Cousins and Karl was "not pretty" after the former sent a cryptic "snakes in the grass" tweet that was likely about the latter, who later challenged Cousins' commitment to the franchise.

On a team level, the Kings have seen two sets of owners, five head coaches, and at least three general managers since Cousins joined the club in 2010.

Putting aside the off-court drama, the on-court product has been equally disastrous. The Kings haven't made the playoffs in a decade nor have they topped the 30-win mark since 2008.

Pair the losing with the extracurriculars surrounding the club, and Cousins' frustration becomes rather understandable.
