Report: Bulls' Gasol 'very likely' to opt out this summer

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Bad news Chicago Bulls fans: You may be without All-Star power forward Pau Gasol after this season.

On Wednesday night, Gasol told Vincent Goodwill of CSNChicago.com he is "very likely" to opt out of his contract this coming summer and test the free-agent market.

Gasol has seen his numbers dwindle a bit this season, but is still putting up a very respectable line of 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, two blocks, and a player efficiency rating of 19.97.

The move makes sense from a financial perspective, as Gasol would be making approximately $7.7 million, a number very low considering the rising cap.

Gasol is in the second year of a three-year, $21-million contract he signed in 2014.

Chicago currently sits third in the Eastern Conference with an 11-5 record.
