Warriors' Thompson suffers minor ankle injury in win over Pacers
The Golden State Warriors' 23rd straight victory to start the season may have come with a price on Tuesday, as All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson left the game against the Indiana Pacers with a right ankle injury late in the fourth quarter.
Thompson, who scored 39 points in the contest, appeared to twist his right ankle coming down from contesting a Chase Budinger drive with 54 seconds remaining. He immediately removed himself from the game and later limped to the locker room.
Thompson did say following the game, however, that he should be back in a couple of days, and the Warriors have two days off before their next game Friday night in Boston. X-rays on the ankle were negative, and ESPN's Marc Stein reports that Thompson will be evaluated further Wednesday.
That's good news for the defending champions, as losing Thompson to a serious injury would have been quite the stinging way to cap Tuesday's victory. Thompson and the rest of the starters appeared to be done for the night after the Warriors had built a 28-point lead heading into the final quarter, but were reinserted after Indiana cut the deficit to 16 with 5:48 to go.
Thompson is averaging 17.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on a 45-42-85 shooting split for the Warriors, who also remain without starting small forward Harrison Barnes due to an ankle injury of his own.
