With Steve Kerr's Golden State Warriors off to a record-setting 19-0 start in his absence, the NBA announced Tuesday that interim coaches, like Luke Walton for example, are eligible for coaching awards.
The announcement likely sets the stage for the Warriors assistant to be named Western Conference Coach of the Month at some point this week.
However, the league's announcement also noted that head coaches remain the coaches credited with wins and losses when absent, leaving Kerr with an incredible 86-15 record over his two seasons as an NBA head coach.
