Larry Brown on 76ers' struggles: 'I could straighten it out in five minutes'
SMU head coach Larry Brown has some time on his hands while he serves a nine-game NCAA suspension to begin the college basketball season. As such, he is offering his opinion on one of his former teams: the 1-25 Philadelphia 76ers.
"I'm sick of what’s going on there," Brown told Sheridan Hoops' Jon Marks.
"(Philadelphia is) an unbelievable basketball city and I had a great experience there. I don't want to get on them when they're struggling, but they don't have any veteran leadership. I want to help. I could straighten it out in five minutes."
Brown said the 76ers should hire franchise legend Allen Iverson in a front-office or coaching capacity, a move he publicly lobbied for last summer.
"I wish they'd get Allen involved," said Brown, who coached Iverson with the Sixers from 1997 to 2003. "All those young kids worship him."
While the "five minutes" remark may sound like an off-the-cuff statement, consider that the Hall of Famer Brown has led nine NBA teams, two ABA franchises, and two college programs in his 43-year coaching career. Brown's six seasons in Philly are the longest he's remained anywhere.
