Cavaliers' Shumpert sustains groin injury, likely out vs. Thunder
Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Iman Shumpert can't catch a break.
Shumpert sustained a groin injury against the Boston Celtics and although the injury seems minor, Shumpert is not expected to play in Thursday's showdown with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reports.
A wrist injury sidelined Shumpert for all but two games this season.
The 25-year-old guard had put up six points in 14 minutes before exiting in the third quarter. He came off the bench for the second straight game since his return, although the long-term plan might be for Shumpert to earn a spot in the starting lineup.
When healthy, Shumpert profiles as a decent two-way wing with some playmaking chops. He averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 24.2 minutes per game with Cleveland last season.
Cleveland re-signed Shumpert to a four-year, $40-million contract this summer.
