Matt Barnes suspended 2 games for off-court incident with Derek Fisher
Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes will reportedly be suspended for his preseason dust-up with New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that it will cost Barnes two games. He's expected to serve the suspension in the team's upcoming games against the Miami Heat and Utah Jazz.
The league confirmed the news shortly thereafter.
Barnes got into a physical confrontation with Fisher in October in an incident involving Barnes's estranged wife, whom is now seeing Fisher. Accounts of the incident have varied depending on the source, but the rough details suggest that Fisher attended a family barbecue with Gloria Govan and her children, which upset Barnes, and he drove over to settle the matter.
He also threatened Fisher, the league revealed Monday.
Fisher has since kept mum on the matter, while Barnes taunted Fisher by saying that he "wanted to run and tell the cops" about something he thought was a personal matter.
Barnes, who was teammates with Fisher with the Lakers, said that the two are no longer friendly.
"We were close. We were friends," Barnes said. "Some things have happened to change that. It is what it is."
