John Wall to undergo MRI on bothersome left knee
Playing through pain is nothing new to Washington Wizards All-Star floor general John Wall, who's dealt with a series of burdensome injuries - including bruised ribs and a sprained ankle - for the better part of the 2015-16 season.
Recently, though, the 25-year-old point guard has battled through discomfort in his left knee, specifically in his vastus medialis obliquus. Wall told reporters prior to Monday's 114-100 victory over the Chicago Bulls he's scheduled for an MRI in Washington to survey the damage, according to the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo.
Wall - who's started all 36 games for the 17-19 Wizards - doesn't expect to miss any time.
"I know you’re going to deal with nagging injuries throughout the year," Wall said following Saturday's 105-99 win over the Orlando Magic. "I’m perfectly fine with that. But it’s the ones that - I can’t even bend my knee without it being sore. So that’s the thing that gets frustrating."
The Wizards roster has been ravaged by injuries, with core pieces Bradley Beal, Nene, Drew Gooden, and Gary Neal all missing long stretches. The one constant has been the play of Wall, who recently earned Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors for December after leading Washington to an 8-8 record while averaging a double-double of 22.6 points and 11.7 assists.
Head coach Randy Wittman applauds Wall's commitment to his team, knowing that his franchise player is not at 100 percent.
"He’s going to play. He doesn’t feel the greatest but that’s who he is," Wittman said. "He loves the game. He loves playing. He doesn’t like sitting out and it took five broken bones to get him to sit out last year and then he still came back. And so that’s who he is and he’s obviously the motor for us."
