Pelicans' Pondexter undergoes successful surgery on left knee

Forward Quincy Pondexter of the New Orleans Pelicans underwent successful season-ending surgery on Wednesday to repair cartilage damage in his left knee, the team announced.

He is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

Pondexter, 27, had yet to play a game this season for the 14-27 Pelicans after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on the same knee last summer.

In 45 appearances last season with New Orleans, Pondexter averaged nine points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 43.3 percent from behind the arc. The Pelicans acquired him a month before the trade deadline from the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team deal involving the Boston Celtics.

In a move to fill the vacancies left by not only Pondexter, but also Eric Gordon (out 4-6 weeks with a fractured finger), the Pelicans have agreed to terms on a 10-day contract with guard Bryce Dejean-Jones of the D-League's Idaho Stampede.
