76ers officially eliminated from playoff contention
Playoff basketball won't be coming to the Wells Fargo Center for the fourth season in a row.
The Philadelphia 76ers, to the surprise of no one, are the first team officially out of the running for a postseason berth after falling to the Washington Wizards 116-108 on the road Monday night.

The 76ers entered the matchup with an 8-51 record, which was nine games back of the 14th-seeded Brooklyn Nets (17-42).
Even if Philadelphia left the Verizon Center with a victory, it would have simply been a matter of time before Brett Brown's roster met this cruel fate. They've possessed the league's worst record from wire to wire, opening the season with an 18-game losing streak.
The last playoff action the franchise saw came in 2011-12 when the eighth-seed Sixers shocked the No. 1 Chicago Bulls in the opening round before getting bounced in the semifinals in a competitive seven-game series by the Boston Celtics.
