36-year-old Matt Barnes records 1st career triple-double
Matt Barnes is a 36-year-old, 13-year NBA veteran who's never averaged more than 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, or 2.8 assists in a season.
In other words, while Barnes should be lauded for the 839 career games under his belt, he isn't exactly the type of star you'd envision as a triple-double threat on any given night - especially considering he entered Friday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans without one in his career.
Yet by the end of the Memphis Grizzlies' overtime victory - the short-handed Grizzlies' latest improbable triumph - there stood Barnes after a 26-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist performance, which also included two steals and zero turnovers in 44 exhausting minutes of action.
Barnes, who turned 36 on Wednesday, becomes just the 10th player aged 36 or older to record a triple-double since 1984, and one of the oldest players ever to record their first career triple-double.
