Mavericks' Deron Williams to undergo MRI, out at least 2 games

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams is set to have an MRI on his strained abdomen and will not play in the team's next two games. The Mavs are on the road in Sacramento against the Kings on Sunday and in Denver against the Nuggets on Monday.

Williams also missed Friday's loss to the Golden State Warriors due to the issue.

It's another stroke of bad luck in the injury department for the Mavs, who have lost nine of their last 11 and are fighting to hold onto the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Chandler Parsons was ruled out for the remainder of the season on Thursday.

Williams, the Mavericks' second-leading scorer with an average of 14 points per contest, has played in 62 of a possible 72 games in his first season in Dallas. He had a throwback performance of sorts last Sunday, scoring 31 points and dishing out 16 assists in a key win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
