Craig Sager says his cancer is no longer in remission
NBA on TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager confirmed his acute myeloid leukemia is no longer in remission. Sager discloses the tough news in a trailer for an episode of HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," scheduled to air Tuesday night.
Sager has been back at work on TNT broadcasts this season, after suffering a recurrence of the leukemia last spring. He is continuing monthly trips to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for treatment.
"I've already had two stem cell transplants. Very rarely does somebody have a third. So I have to maintain my strength, so I can go through this," the 64-year-old Sager tells HBO.
"I haven't won the battle. It's not over yet. But I haven't lost it, either. There have been some victories and some setbacks, but I still have to fight it."
