You'd never know it given the atmosphere inside Staples Center on Wednesday, but the once-proud Los Angeles Lakers reached an unprecedented level of futility.
With a 91-81 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Lakers reached a franchise-record 62 losses on the season. The previous record was set last year, when the team finished 21-61.
The loss marked the second-last home game in Kobe Bryant's career, and the fans gave him a standing ovation as he walked off the court.
Since last reaching the playoffs in 2012-13, the Lakers have missed the postseason three straight years, going 64-178. They embark on a three-game road trip beginning Thursday before wrapping up at home next Wednesday.
