UCLA guard Prince Ali underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the team announced.
Ali is expected to be out at least four months, at which time the Bruins will re-evaluate him and have a clearer idea of when he could return to the court. Given the timeline, Ali may miss the start of the 2016-17 season.
Ali was a freshman last year and averaged 3.9 points in 11.8 minutes. The former four-star recruit was expected to be part of a young Bruins core.
He tore his meniscus July 8 while playing in an open gym, according to Ben Bolch of the LA Times.
