Puerto Rico Tip-Off moved to Orlando due to Zika concerns
Organizers of the 2016 Puerto Rico Tip-Off have decided to move the event from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Orlando, Fla., due to concerns over the Zika virus.
The previously scheduled event dates from Nov. 17-20 will remain the same, as will the teams involved: Arizona State, Clemson, Davidson, Missouri, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Tulane, and Xavier are all slated to participate in the tournament.
"We enjoy the beauty and accommodations that are afforded in Puerto Rico and wanted to make every effort in playing the event in San Juan, but the concern for student-athlete and spectator welfare became the primary driver in the decision," senior vice president of ESPN Events Pete Derzis said in a statement. "We intend to return to Puerto Rico in the future."
The venue will now be the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, which will also host the AdvoCare Invitational the following week.
