3 things Brent Musburger will be remembered for beyond his calls
Brent Musburger will end his illustrious sportscasting career on Jan. 31, and there's so much he'll be remembered for beyond his many memorable calls.
Let's go through the vault:
'You are looking live'
It didn't take long for Musburger's opening line to become famous. The words "You are looking live" became synonymous with his booming voice over the years, and remain his signature phrase.
Controversies
1. JENN STERGER
In 2005, Musburger came back from a commercial break and immediately exclaimed, "Fifteen hundred red-blooded Americans just decided to apply to Florida State."
One of the women in that shot happened to be Jenn Sterger, who later became famous for other reasons. Google "Jenn Sterger Brett Favre" to learn more about that.
2. KATHERINE WEBB
Alabama dominated Notre Dame in the 2013 BCS National Championship, but the most memorable moment from that contest came from Musburger glossing over A.J. McCarron's girlfriend, Katherine Webb.
"If you're a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pop," he told the TV audience.
3. IOWA STATE
While watching a group of female Iowa State fans take selfies during the Big 12 tournament in 2014, Musburger let out an "Oh, yeah" and named them "sixth man of the game."
4. JOE MIXON
Musburger drew the ire of fans again in the 2017 Sugar Bowl, when he wished Oklahoma's Joe Mixon - previously involved in a domestic violence case - a successful NFL career.
Musburger later tried to clarify his comments, but viewers were left with a sour taste in their mouths.
Wacky stuff
A young Musburger once interviewed the always eccentric Joe Namath by the poolside.
Who can forget when a seemingly spaced-out Eminem visited Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit in the booth?
Or when he accidentally called himself Kirk Herbstreit, leaving his broadcast partner - the real Kirk Herbstreit - befuddled.
Ever the entertainer, Musburger made an appearance in "The Waterboy":
... And in "Rocky II":
