Remorseful LiAngelo details 'horrible' experience in Chinese jail

As LiAngelo Ball closes the book on his UCLA career, he's reflecting on how it all fell apart.

A day after it was revealed his father, LaVar, is pulling him out of the university and basketball program, LiAngelo opened up about the crime he committed with teammates Jalen Hill and Cody Riley in China, and the repercussions of those actions.

"We all went out one night, went through the malls, went to the Louis Vuitton store," LiAngelo recalled on "TODAY" on Monday.

"People started taking stuff, and then me just not thinking and being with them, I took something too. And we left thinking we'd just get away. You know how kids think. I didn't realize until I got back to my hotel, I was like 'that was stupid,' but by then it was too late. Sure enough, the next morning the police came and got us."

The trio then spent about a day and a half in prison.

"It was horrible," the 19-year-old said. "They take your clothes. You wear like whatever they have for you, little jumpsuit or whatever, take your shoestrings. You just sit there in the cement cell for however long. It's just you and all the officers, and they don't speak English."

The three Bruins returned to the U.S. about a week later after some successful diplomatic intervention, but were suspended indefinitely by UCLA.

Since LiAngelo would "rather be playing," he's been removed from the program and is exploring options to play overseas along with his younger brother LaMelo, who's 16 and being home-schooled by his father. No longer restricted by NCAA rules, LiAngelo is getting his own Big Baller Brand signature shoe.
