Greene, who will become the third African-American athletic director in SEC history if officially hired, has been in charge of Buffalo's athletic department since November 2015.
At only 40 years old, he'll inherit a men's basketball program facing great uncertainty due to the recruiting scandal that was broken open by the FBI.
The football program is in more stable condition, as coach Gus Malzahn signed a new long-term contract at the end of the 2017 season.
