Mississippi State forward Nick Weatherspoon was stretchered off the court and taken to hospital after suffering an apparent neck injury during Friday's SEC tournament game against Tennessee, according to Will Sammon of The Clarion Ledger.

Weatherspoon appeared to sustain the injury while already down on the court following a layup attempt. Multiple players appeared to step on Weatherspoon during the play, with a Tennessee player making contact with his head.

Both teams remained on the court as Weatherspoon was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away.

Mississippi State subsequently provided a hopeful update on Weatherspoon's status.

The SEC later released a statement of its own, including a quote from Mark Whitehead, coordinator of SEC officials.
