Report: NCAA to change college basketball recruiting rules for 2019
Several changes to the college basketball recruiting rulebook and calendar are reportedly set to take effect in 2019, according to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.
The reported changes for July are expected to be the largest and potentially most influential, as coaches will be allowed to attend sanctioned, non-scholastic events for just one five-day window as opposed to three.
To replace one of the July windows, multiple camp-style events will be organized and coordinated by the NCAA, USA Basketball, NBA, and NBPA, Norlander adds. The events are expected to include approximately 1100 high school seniors and 1000 high school juniors.
A bonus recruiting opportunity in April will reportedly allow coaches to visit prospective student-athletes in-home after the April evaluation periods conclude. Coaches are currently barred from home visits until the student completes his junior year.
Per Norlander, June will be open for recruiting, where it was previously left off the calendar. Coaches will be allowed to travel for two three-day visitation periods to scholastic events, meaning it may not be a branded event.
