Weird Week in 🏀: Snacks, Shakes, and LeBron's crappy love lessons
Every Sunday, theScore highlights the week's lighter moments from around the basketball universe. Here's what caught our eye this week.
Steal and the slam
The following clip is like inbounding the ball directly to your opponent, then politely standing under the hoop while he windmills on your head.
You can tell from the speaker's confused response of "aw-waaayy?" that he wasn't expecting Richard Jefferson to end his marriage.
More heat than the Snack Attack
With Jackson State up big on senior night, the team decided to unleash the Snack Attack.
Checking in late, student manager Thomas "Snacks" Lee made his NCAA debut and quickly ripped off a deep 3-ball.
Nets star Kevin Durant even took notice, sending Snacks a signed jersey.
Snacks forever.
Crappy love advice
Did LeBron James have one too many glasses of a vintage Tuscan red on Friday night? The Lakers star posted a graphic on Instagram which stood out from his usual oeuvre, which primarily consists of action shots of himself, pics of his family, and thinly veiled Nike ads.
This is the sort of thing my 75-year-old dad posts on Facebook after drinking three hard lemonades.
This week in bizarre acting choices
First, enjoy Zach Randolph's stilted delivery in this ad for Grizzlies season tickets.
Now, rewatch the clip while focusing entirely on Tony Allen's bizarre performance in the background. What caused "The Grindfather" to shake his hand in the air emphatically? We may never know.
Playing 3D chess
Toronto basketball fans took umbrage with Dennis Scott's preseason prediction that the reigning champs would miss the playoffs, so when the Raptors (currently 44-18) officially clinched their playoff berth on Thursday, fans were quick to remind "3D" that they hadn't forgotten his forecast.
The Raptors' social media team also had some fun at Scott's expense.
(The team cropped out Sam Mitchell's slightly less insulting prediction that the Raptors would finish eighth in the East. Mitchell, who won the Coach of the Year award with Toronto in 2007, currently works as an analyst for TSN. The network is partially owned by Bell, which owns a large percentage of the Raptors' parent company, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment.)
He'd teach you, but he'd have to charge
With the Philadelphia 76ers' rotation dealing with significant injuries, previously unheralded players like second-year guard Shake Milton have gotten some extra run in of late. You may recall his 39-point deluge against the Clippers last Sunday.
In a very relatable moment, one Kings fan was caught looking Milton up during Thursday's game.
Fun fact: Milton, whose first name is actually Malik, has always gone by "Shake" because his late father's nickname was "The Milkman." Not only is that a great origin story, but Shake is the perfect name for the crafty guard.
Hold your applause
With the B.League on hold due to the coronavirus, fans of Japan's premier domestic league will have to settle for highlights of seasons past. Don't worry; your friends at Weird Week have you covered.
This clip of former Lakers center Robert Sacre in the B.League dunk contest made the rounds on its two-year anniversary this week, and ... woof. Just watch.
Not even Dwyane Wade would rate this effort a nine.
