Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr commits to Kentucky

Highly coveted Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr has committed to play for Kentucky, he announced Wednesday on social media.

"With everything that has happened in the last two-to-three weeks, I've had a lot to think about and consider," Sarr wrote. "(Head) coach (Danny) Manning and the staff were family. After thinking deeply about it, talking with my support system, and weighing my future, I just didn't feel like I could be at my best by returning to Wake Forest."

The Frenchman said last week that the recent firing of Manning played a role in his decision to enter the transfer portal. He also said he'd listen to what new head coach Steve Forbes had to say before finalizing anything.

Forbes apparently did all he could to try and lure the center back to Wake Forest, but Sarr ultimately chose to move on and join the Wildcats. Sarr will need to obtain a waiver from the NCAA in order to become immediately eligible to play next year.

"I felt that (Kentucky) was the best fit and the best opportunity for me," Sarr told ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Jonathan Givony. "Being able to play for that great program and showcase my winning drive on that stage. Coach (John Calipari) made me understand that I was needed over there."

Sarr averaged 13.7 points and nine rebounds during his junior season in 2019-20, earning third-team All-ACC honors.

Kentucky is set to enter next season with the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to Rivals.
