Baylor's Butler named tourney's Most Outstanding Player

Baylor junior Jared Butler was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 NCAA Tournament after piloting the Bears to the first national title in team history.

Joining Butler on the 2021 All-Tournament Team are his Bears teammate Davion Mitchell, Gonzaga stars Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs, and UCLA's Johnny Juzang, according to the NCAA.

Butler averaged 13.8 points, 4.6 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and two steals per game in five appearances leading up to the title match. The 6-foot-3 guard tallied 22 points, seven assists, and three rebounds in the tournament-clinching 86-70 win over Gonzaga.

He became the first player to put up at least 20 points and seven assists in the national title game since Syracuse's Carmelo Anthony in 2003, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Overall, Butler scored or assisted on 38 of his team's 86 points.
