Mac McClung forgoes remaining college eligibility, will stay in NBA draft

Former Texas Tech guard Mac McClung will hire an agent and remain in the 2021 NBA Draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility.

"I just felt the timing was right for me to go all in," McClung said Monday, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony. "I looked at multiple factors and decided the best time for me to take this step was now.

"I feel the NBA game and spacing is suited for my play style and I can't wait to start this chapter of my life. I'm very blessed to be able to chase my dreams."

McClung announced in April he was declaring for the upcoming draft while simultaneously entering the NCAA transfer portal. The decision came 10 days after head coach Chris Beard left the Red Raiders to take the vacant gig at Texas.

McClung averaged 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists with Texas Tech in 2020-21 following two seasons at Georgetown. He was named to the All-Big 12 second team in March and also won the conference's Newcomer of the Year award. He helped the Red Raiders defeat Utah State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before their run came to an end against Arkansas.
