Calipari after Louisville fires Mack: 'We're all 30 days from bankruptcy'

Kentucky head coach John Calipari was sympathetic after in-state rival Louisville parted ways with coach Chris Mack on Wednesday.

"I feel bad for he and his family. Coaching is a hard profession. We're all 30 days from bankruptcy," Calipari told The Athletic's Kyle Tucker.

Mack was dismissed from the program after a 68-37 mark with the program and just an 11-10 record this season.

As a part of the settlement, Louisville will pay Mack $4.8 million in buyout money. Calipari's buyout is $60 million, according to Sports Illustrated's Kevin Sweeney.

Calipari went 2-1 head-to-head against Mack at Louisville. This season's tilt was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
