Coach K gives health update after leaving Tuesday's win: 'I'm better'
Just a couple of days after Mike Krzyzewski abruptly left midway through Tuesday's 76-74 victory over Wake Forest, the legendary Duke head coach seems to be in good spirits.
"I'm better," Coach K told SiriusXM on Thursday.
Krzyzewski blamed his departure on the team's schedule.
"We went through a very taxing part of our season with four games in eight days, late travel, and I still prepare the same way," he said. "That day for Wake, I wasn’t feeling that good. ... Then, as I'm walking off the court at halftime, it's the first time I had stood up; I really thought I could pass out. I got to the locker room, and my medical people just gave me IVs and whatever. I'm better."
Krzyzewski, who celebrated his 75th birthday two days prior to the incident, used the medical scare as an opportunity to poke fun at his old age.
"Look, you get exhausted," he added. "I don't know if it was my way of celebrating my 75th birthday and saying, 'Knucklehead, you are 75. You better do something a little bit different.'"
The Blue Devils took Wednesday off, but they returned to practice Thursday with their bench boss running things as usual.
"Coach K is good," guard Trevor Keels told reporters, including ZagsBlog's Adam Zagoria. "There's no falloff, no sluggishness coming in (Thursday). He was in here early in the morning, watching film like he always does, talking to his coaches."
Duke will take its 22-4 record into a rivalry game against Florida State on Saturday. It'll mark Krzyzewski's second-last home contest as the program's head coach.
