Report: Georgetown extended Ewing after 2021 March Madness berth

Georgetown gave head coach Patrick Ewing a contract extension following last year's surprising run to the NCAA Tournament, sources told FanDuel's Jon Rothstein.

Terms of the deal - including a potential buyout figure with Ewing on the hot seat amid a poor campaign - have not been disclosed.

The Hoyas were just 9-12 overall last season before winning four games in four days at the Big East Tournament to earn the league's automatic bid to March Madness.

Georgetown was awarded a No. 12 seed, falling 96-73 to No. 5 Colorado in the Round of 64.

The late-season momentum did not carry over into 2021-22. The Hoyas are 6-20 this season with an 0-15 mark in Big East play. Only two of their losses have come by fewer than seven points.

Ewing has led Georgetown to a 68-79 record over five seasons at the helm of his alma mater. Last year's NCAA Tournament berth was the first of his tenure.
