Former Illinois point guard Andre Curbelo is transferring to St. John's, he announced Friday.

The 2020-21 Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year and All-Freshman team member put together an impressive rookie campaign but struggled to gain his footing as a sophomore after suffering an early-season concussion.

In 50 combined games at Illinois, Curbelo averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 assists on 43% shooting from the field and just 17% from beyond the arc.

Curbelo was born in Puerto Rico but attended high school in New York City, where St. John's is located.

The 6-foot-1 playmaker will join fellow one-guard Posh Alexander to form an exciting backcourt next season for the Red Storm.
