SDSU star Scheierman commits to Creighton

Former South Dakota State University standout Baylor Scheierman transferred to Creighton, he announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-6 wing picked the Bluejays over Nebraska, Clemson, Arkansas, and Duke, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeff Borzello.

Scheierman said he chose Creighton because of its playing style.

"They are an unselfish team who really share the ball and that's what I'm used to and I enjoy playing that way," he told ESPN. "They also let their guys play free and loose, and I feel like I play my best in that type of system."

The Summit League Player of the Year led the Jackrabbits to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Providence. He averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 46.9% shooting from beyond the arc in the regular season, good enough for his second straight first-team all-conference selection.

The Bluejays were defeated by eventual champion Kansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"They said I'm that missing piece that can take them to a national championship - and better yet, I can do it at home," said Scheierman.

Despite committing to Creighton, he declared for the NBA draft in March and is invited to the G League Elite Camp later in May.

"I think if I can get drafted and it's guaranteed money then I will stay," Scheierman told ESPN.
