Banchero: I sometimes felt like a 'zoo animal' at Duke
As a star athlete at Duke, forward Paolo Banchero's college experience was anything but typical.
The Orlando Magic rookie spoke about his brief time as a Blue Devil on Fubo Sports Network's "The Young Person Basketball Podcast with RJ Hampton," admitting that the attention he received from his classmates could be overwhelming.
"I love Duke by far, but it was like sometimes it'd feel like you was like a zoo animal or something, bro," Banchero told Hampton. "In class, you'd see them over there like whispering about you, staring at you."
Banchero said that people eventually found out which dorm he was staying in on campus, which brought him even more attention.
"My classmates would start bringing their families - like their brother, their sister, their mom and dad - to my dorm and like knocking on my dorm," he said. "It'd be like a Sunday morning, bro, and I'd get like a knock, and I'd be like, 'What?' I open my door, it's a mom, dad, their daughter who goes to Duke, and like their little brother. Like, 'We just wanted to say hi.'"
Banchero played one season at Duke, helping the Blue Devils to a 32-7 record and a Final Four appearance in the NCAA tournament.
