Larry Brown departing Memphis due to health issues
Basketball Hall of Famer Larry Brown is stepping down from his role as a special advisor to the head coach at Memphis due to ongoing health concerns, the team announced.
The concerns aren't considered serious.
"We wish coach Brown a speedy recovery," Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway said. "Having coach Brown as part of our program over the last year-and-a-half was very impactful on our student-athletes and me as a coach, and we hope all the best for him and good health moving forward."
Brown coached at Kansas in the 1980s. He spent more than two decades as an NBA head coach, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001 and winning the championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. He joined Memphis' staff in 2021 after a brief coaching hiatus.
