Fan completes quest to see every Division I men's basketball team live

Two decades and more than 400 games later, college hoops fan Craig Caswell has accomplished his goal of watching all 364 NCAA Division I men's basketball teams play in person.

Caswell, 32, completed his quest Saturday by attending the game between American and Lehigh at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C., according to Scott Allen of the Washington Post. His journey spanned 21 years and included 442 games at 131 venues.

The first Division I game Caswell saw live was on Jan. 9, 2002, when he watched Dayton defeat George Washington 83-59. However, he didn't come up with the idea to visit every D-I team until his junior year in 2011.

"I thought: 'I love to travel, and I love college basketball. How feasible would it be to see every team in Division I?'" Caswell said. "I was determined to basically consume as much college basketball as I could going forward. All the years since have involved a lot of deliberate planning to try to achieve that goal."

Caswell's wife, Jaclyn Meyer, often accompanies him to games. The couple enjoys exploring each school's campus and trying new cuisines during their trips.

"Traveling around to these games, it's almost like being let into a special tribe for a single night," Caswell said. "It's: 'Welcome to our tribe. We'll show you how we do it. We'll show you our traditions. We'll show you what's important to us.' I love that the majority of Division I toils away outside the spotlight, but N.C. A&T basketball is just as important to the folks that support N.C. A&T as Carolina basketball is at UNC."

Even though his quest is complete, Caswell said he has no plans to stop going to basketball games. He added that he hopes to visit venues he's never been to before, including the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra, UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, Kansas's Allen Fieldhouse, and the University of Hawaii's Stan Sheriff Center.
