5-star prospect Jarin Stevenson commits to Alabama, reclassifies to 2023
Jarin Stevenson, a five-star forward out of North Carolina, committed to Alabama on Wednesday and will reclassify from the 2024 class to 2023.
Stevenson also had his home state Tar Heels and Virginia in his top three schools.
The 6-foot-10 forward credited Alabama head coach Nate Oats' attention to data as a reason for committing to the program.
"They have great people and facilities," he told ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi. "I like their NBA-style offense. Coach (Nate) Oats is really into analytics. He makes team decisions based on percentages. I like that. Numbers don't lie."
Stevenson was previously No. 13 on the 2024 ESPN 100 but was ranked the top prospect at his position, as well as the best player out of North Carolina.
Stevenson is the only five-star recruit in Alabama's 2023 class, though he's joined by four-star forwards Sam Walters, Kris Parker, and Mouhamed Dioubate as commits this summer, as well as guard Davin Cosby, according to ESPN. Oats' side will also add transfer guards Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Aaron Estrada, from Cal State Fullerton and Hofstra, respectively, to next season's roster, courtesy of 247Sports.
Alabama will be without a trio of key starters from last season's squad. Leading scorer and wing Brandon Miller is likely to be selected within the top three in Thursday's NBA draft, while forward Noah Clowney and center Charles Bediako won't return to school after opting to remain in the draft past the NCAA's withdrawal deadline.
