5-star guard Tre Johnson commits to Texas
Tre Johnson, the No. 4 recruit in the 2024 ESPN 100, has committed to Texas, according to Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports.
Johnson, a 6-foot-6 guard from Dallas, picked the Longhorns over Baylor. He also received offers from a variety of other schools, including Kentucky and Kansas, according to On3's Joe Tipton.
"I like the culture and my relationship with the coaching staff," said Johnson. "They have guys who will be returning that will be good players around me. They see me as one of their guys who can come in and be effective on offense. They want me to be a one-and-done player who will always have a program to come back to."
Johnson announced the move on social media. He joins No. 24 forward Cam Scott and No. 67 forward Nic Codie in the Longhorns' recruiting class for 2024.

Johnson said that his relationship with Texas coach Rodney Terry and the rest of the staff was a determining factor.
“We have a great relationship," said Johnson, according to Tipton. "I feel I can be myself around them and I feel they would push me and help better myself.”
Terry led Texas to the Elite Eight after taking over for Chris Beard in December of 2022.
