Jerod Haase was relieved as Stanford head coach Thursday after eight seasons with the school.

"While the on-court results fell short of our expectations, coach Haase led our men's basketball program with great integrity and made a deeply positive impact on many Cardinal student-athletes," said director of athletics Bernard Muir. "As we embark on the search for our next head coach, I wish Jerod and his family all the best in the future."

The Cardinal will undergo a national search for their next coach.

Stanford was eliminated in the second round of the Pac-12 tournament by Washington State on Thursday, losing 79-62.

Haase was hired as coach in 2016. Over eight seasons, he went 126-127 with no NCAA Tournament appearances. The Cardinal did make the National Invitational Tournament in 2018 and lost in the second round.

Since 2008, the program has only made March Madness on one occasion, losing in the Sweet 16 in 2014.

Stanford will join the Atlantic Coast Conference next season.
