Indiana's Woodson stepping down at end of season

Indiana head coach Mike Woodson is stepping down at the end of season, school athletic director Scott Dolson announced Friday.

"He (Woodson) said it had been weighing on his mind for a while and that it was an emotional and difficult decision," Dolson said in a statement, according to The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman.

"We have had subsequent thoughtful conversations about his decision and his desire to ensure that the program is in the best position it can be moving forward. At an appropriate time, Coach Woodson will articulate his feelings about his decision and his experiences these last four years."

Woodson has spent four seasons coaching his alma mater, going 77-49. The Hoosiers made the NCAA Tournament in his first two seasons, losing in the first and second round, respectively. Indiana missed out on the Big Dance last campaign, finishing 19-14.

Indiana has lost four straight games and six of its last seven. The Hoosiers were No. 17 in the preseason AP Top 25 and ranked as high as No. 14 during the season.

Woodson has reportedly lost the support of Indiana's high-level boosters.

"It's clear to me from our discussions in the last several days that his No. 1 priority is for the attention to be off him and instead focused on uniting Hoosier Nation in support of our student-athletes, coaches, and, most importantly, the program," Dolson added.

Indiana is 14-9 this season. The Hoosiers face No. 24 Michigan on Saturday.
