Villanova fires Kyle Neptune

Villanova is parting ways with head coach Kyle Neptune after three seasons, the school announced Saturday.

"Since coming to Villanova, I have been struck by Kyle's tireless work ethic and his dedication to the student-athletes he served," Villanova vice president and director of athletics Eric Roedl said in a statement. "We are grateful to Kyle for his long service to Villanova and his mentorship to the many outstanding young men he has coached."

A national search for the school's next coach will begin immediately, and assistant coach Mike Nardi will fill the role on an interim basis.

The Wildcats failed to reach the NCAA Tournament under Neptune but were perennial entrants with predecessor Jay Wright.

Under Wright, the Wildcats missed March Madness just once from 2005-22.

Neptune led Villanova to a 19-14 overall record this campaign and an 11-9 record in the Big East.

Villanova's season ended Thursday with a 73-56 loss to UConn in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals.

Villanova went 54-47 during Neptune's three seasons.
