Duke's Brown ready for increased role in Final Four
Duke forward Maliq Brown is ready for a bigger role in Saturday's Final Four matchup with Houston after a left shoulder injury cut his playing time last weekend, he told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Friday.
Brown previously missed four games after dislocating his shoulder for the second time this season in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament against Georgia Tech. He returned for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight but played less than four minutes in both contests.
The 20-year-old has spent the last week practicing and getting live reps as he aims to return to his typical role, averaging more than 15 minutes per game.
"So I would definitely say it's a different perspective (from last week)," Brown said. "I'm not sure of my percentage, but to be honest, I feel good. Compared to last week, I feel better."
Brown said he's not 100% but added he'll focus on Duke's success rather than his injury.
"Not trying to think about my injury or anything, just trying to keep the team on the same page and just go out there and get that win," Brown said.
Brown is averaging 2.4 points and 3.7 rebounds this season, but his value goes beyond his stats, specifically on the defensive end.
