Maryland's mascot statue survives fire unscathed
Late Tuesday night, thew University of Maryland's beloved mascot Testudo, a 1,000-pound bronze turtle statue that sits in front of the McKeldin Library, was set ablaze.
The statue gains significant notoriety over finals week with students bringing offerings for luck, but perhaps someone went too far this time. The horror!
Pictures began showing up on Twitter late Tuesday of the helpless "terrapin" engulfed in flames.
Taking #testudo offerings too far, whoever did this is going to fail I hope! #poortestudo pic.twitter.com/PstxZvxify

Never fear! This is one bad-ass turtle. Testudo was back in action Wednesday morning without so much as a scratch. Some caring students left him get-well cards though.
@ILuvKaraoke @Rosenbergradio Testudo's good, they put out the fire and cleaned him off. pic.twitter.com/CTf1Vh0Gmr
