San Juan, PR (Sports Network) - Ben Smith scored 17 points to lead the Wichita State Shockers to a 67-58 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes in the opening round of the fifth annual Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Toure Murry added 17 points off the bench for Wichita State (2-0), while Garrett Stutz contributed a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. David Kyles helped out with 10 points in the win.
Carlon Brown was the only player in double-figures for Colorado (1-1), as he finished with 15 points in the loss.
The Shockers went into the break with a 33-26 lead after posting a 48.3 percent shooting effort in the opening half, which included a 5-of-12 clip from behind the arc.
Wichita State continued its consistent play in the second stanza, as the team shot 41.9 percent over the final 20 minutes, en route to the nine-point win.
Wichita State won the battle on the glass by a 38-28 margin.
