VIDEO: VMI hit on three buzzer-beaters to down Gardner-Webb in quadruple-overtime
The Virginia Military Keydets (VMI) defeated the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in a thriller on Wednesday night for their third win in a row.
Notable takeaways from the game include the fact that the win came in quadruple-overtime, and the Keydets used three (!) buzzer-beaters to get there.
First, it was Brian Brown banking in a three-pointer at the end of regulation to knot the game up at 73. Then, in double-overtime, D.J. Covington received an inbounds pass in the lane and scored as time expired to tie the game at 88. Finally, at the end of the third overtime session, VMI faced an inbound pass from their end of the court with just 1.7 seconds remaining but were able to take advantage of a defensive breakdown by Gardner-Webb when Tim Marshall hit a game-tying layup to square the sides at 97.
After that, VMI cruised to a comparatively uneventful 108-104 in the fourth overtime session.
The win improved VMI's Big South record to 6-3.
